Baby room: Why choose convertible furniture?

All parents and parents-to-be know it well, baby grows at lightning speed! Their belongings will only be used for a short time, and this applies to furniture too. Therefore, opting for convertible furniture is the perfect way to make each item more durable over time and to make the most of it. So what exactly is convertible furniture for the baby's room? And most importantly, how do you choose it?

When we talk about convertible furniture, we're referring to adaptable and transformable furniture. Some pieces of furniture indeed have the ability to be modified as the child grows to better suit their needs. These modifications are of course guided by the assembly instructions. Thus, a piece of furniture that was only meant to be used for a few months or maximum 2 years suddenly gets a much longer lifespan.

Choosing convertible baby furniture has several advantages:

  • Opt for more sustainable furniture (and therefore more eco-responsible)
  • Keep a matching furniture set (especially if you decide to opt for a complete room)
  • Make the investment worthwhile (by avoiding furniture that becomes useless after a short time despite its cost)

Convertible furniture is therefore increasingly popular in baby rooms and offers parents multiple solutions to meet their furnishing needs.

What is a convertible bed?

The most practical and well-known convertible furniture piece is undoubtedly the convertible baby bed. This wooden baby bed can be used from 6 months to 2 years of age. It would be a shame to keep this piece of furniture for barely a year and a half.

💡 The convertible baby bed is a bed that will transform as the child grows. Most often, it starts as a barred baby bed.

Thus, the convertible baby bed can be transformed into a child's bed. In most cases, it's a 70x140 cm child bed (the same dimensions as the baby bed, but without bars). From then on, this bed can be used until the age of 6. This is the case, for example, with our 70x140 WOOD convertible baby bed - Vintage Oak. There are even convertible baby bed models that allow you to go from a cradle (to be used from 0 to 6 months), to a barred baby bed, and finally to a child's bed.

What about the combination baby bed?

The convertible baby bed can also be a combination baby bed. This wooden baby bed is both convertible and all-in-one. It combines a convertible baby bed, a changing table, and storage. Very practical, it allows parents who want to furnish a small room to create a minimalist baby room with everything they'll need. This piece of furniture is of course also transformable as the child grows.

How to choose your convertible bed?

To choose your convertible baby bed, you can consider several criteria such as:

  • Material: Preferably opt for wood, and if possible PEFC certified. You can also prioritize the use of ecological wood panels, as well as solvent-free paints and varnishes.
  • Origin: Made in France should of course be prioritized for its quality craftsmanship and eco-responsible focus. Made in Europe is also a very good choice.
  • Style: When it comes to looks, you'll be spoilt for choice for your convertible baby bed. Whether you prefer design or more retro appearances, you'll undoubtedly find the model that matches your baby room decor.
  • Price: Price-wise, it can vary from about 300 euros to over 1000 euros. You therefore have the possibility to find a convertible baby bed, regardless of your budget.

What other convertible furniture is available for the baby's room?

To complement your convertible baby bed, you have the option to choose other furniture pieces designed to evolve as your child grows.

The changing dresser

The dresser can also evolve with your child's rhythm. Indeed, you have the option to choose a dresser with a removable changing top. It's a storage dresser like any other, on which you can install a changing top. It then transforms into a changing table with integrated storage. You can change your baby there throughout the diaper period.

When this time of their life is over, you can remove the changing top to get your dresser back. This saves you from buying a changing table and allows you to save space in your child's room. You can even opt for a dresser with a removable changing top that matches your convertible baby bed.

The Montessori convertible arch

Finally, you can also choose furniture that is both playful and convertible. The Montessori arch has been gaining popularity in recent years. It can be used as a swing to encourage play, a rest area, a climbing frame, or even a table for ages 3 to 5. Here, nothing needs to be modified, it all depends on how you position your Montessori convertible arch. The little ones will love it from an early age until about 6 years old. If you have space left in the baby's room, this is a fabulous piece of furniture that they will love discovering later on.
