What is a storage bed?

A storage bed is a bed where you can lift the bed base and mattress using a piston system, revealing a large storage space underneath. In other words, the area under the bed base, which is usually empty, is enclosed by a storage unit to avoid wasting any space. This piece of furniture therefore provides access to a large storage compartment where you can store many items. Then, the bed base can be lowered again to cover the access opening to the storage unit. This allows you to save space in the bedroom.

Once closed, it's impossible to guess what the storage compartment contains or even its presence. It is therefore an ultra-discreet storage space that avoids any waste of space.

How to choose a storage bed?

The choice of a storage bed depends primarily on one's needs.

The size

First of all, it's the size that you'll need to focus on. Just like for a classic adult bed, the storage bed can come in several sizes. Most often, we talk about 140x200 cm storage beds or 160x200 cm storage beds. These are the two most common standard dimensions for adult beds, although there are larger sizes such as 180x200 cm or even 200x200 cm beds. However, these latter require having a large room to install them.

The 160 cm storage bed is often an excellent choice. It allows two people to share the same sleeping space without disturbing each other, without taking up too much space.

The style

Once you have defined the ideal size for your model, all you have to do is choose the bed style that suits you. For example, you can opt for a storage bed with a fabric covering such as cotton, linen or even velvet. However, be careful of stains and wear, as this type of furniture with upholstery fabric will be more fragile and more difficult to maintain.

You can also choose a wooden storage bed. Here, the bed frame is made of wood, which allows for greater durability over time, as well as real ease when it comes to cleaning and maintenance. The wooden storage bed is therefore a very good choice. Wood also allows for many possibilities in terms of style and colour. For example, you can choose a white storage bed, oak colour, pine, etc.

What are the advantages of opting for a storage bed?

A storage bed or storage bed base primarily allows you to take advantage of considerable storage space in a bedroom. Usually, all the space underneath the bed is wasted. With this piece of furniture, you give purpose to this space and make it very easy to access. You can thus store the contents of a wardrobe or chest of drawers very easily, thereby freeing up space in the rest of the room.

If you lack space in your bedroom, the storage bed is a very good choice. It is therefore primarily a bed with storage that allows for a real space gain.

Regarding the mattress, you can equip your storage bed as you see fit, as long as the dimensions are similar. If you opt for a 160x200 cm storage bed, you will need a 160x200 cm mattress. You can install your old mattress or take the opportunity to treat yourself to a new model. The same applies to bedding. You can put any adult bedding set on it, as long as the dimensions are respected. You therefore have a very wide range of possibilities in terms of both mattresses and bedding.
