What age for sleeping in a bunk bed?

A bunk bed is, by definition, a raised bed. Thus, to sleep in a bunk bed, the child must be independent and sufficiently confident. This is why we recommend the bunk bed with mattress pack for children aged 6 and above, unlike other children's bed with mattress packs.

Then, depending on your child and the room configuration, several bunk bed models exist:

  • The 90x190 bunk bed. This large sleeping space is recommended for children between 6 and 15 years old. It can accommodate 2 children, so that each has their own bed but in the same piece of furniture. If your children share the same room, the bunk bed allows you to save space by using vertical space rather than floor space, leaving room for a chest of drawers.
  • The 90x200 bunk bed. This bed is suitable for children and teenagers, as it offers larger dimensions to ensure optimal comfort. Its modern and simple or colourful design can match any teenager's bedroom.
  • The separable bunk bed. This model has been designed to allow you to assemble your furniture with the beds arranged one above the other or side by side. To accommodate all life's possibilities, this separable bed transforms into 2 real teen or children's beds when room space allows.
  • The trundle bunk bed. This solution offers the possibility to sleep up to 3 children in the same bed. This children's bunk bed is divided into 3 sleeping spaces including a high bed, a lower bed, and a third bed, which is in a pull-out drawer. The latter can therefore be slid under the bunk bed when not in use. You then have 3 real beds that only take up the floor space of a single bed. Your children thus have the necessary space to play.

What thickness of mattress for a bunk bed?

Choosing a mattress for a bunk bed is particularly important as it must meet safety standards, especially for the top bunk. Indeed, a mattress that's too thick won't leave sufficient guard rail height to protect your child from potential falls.

This is why we recommend 90x190 or 90x200 mattresses with a thickness of 16 cm for the top bunk to ensure your child's safety and comfort.

Beyond thickness, the composition of your children's mattress should also be considered in your decision-making.

At Nateo Concept, we offer a range of mattresses:

  • Hypoallergenic and dust mite resistant. As children are prone to allergies, our mattresses are hypoallergenic, dust mite resistant and healthy.
  • Easy to clean. Mattress maintenance is essential for extending its lifespan. Deep cleaning of the mattress should be done at least 1 to 2 times per year for healthy sleeping. It's best to add a mattress protector for maximum protection.
  • Made from natural materials. Children's bedding is made from natural fibres. These ecological materials help prevent allergies and preserve the environment.
  • Designed to optimise mattress breathability. Regardless of which bed you place your child's mattress on, it's essential that it can breathe. For this, it's recommended to choose a suitable child's bed base. A good bed base enhances the natural properties of our mattresses. Your mattress will thus have good ventilation and help prevent moisture and condensation problems.

Eco-responsible materials for peaceful nights

Your children deserve to enjoy peaceful nights, which is why our furniture and bedding are made in France and composed of ecological materials, safe for your children.

Our range of bunk beds is made from PEFC certified wood. This wood is either solid, as in the solid pine bunk bed, or in the form of reconstituted wood panels with low formaldehyde content. This wood is then covered with either a wood-effect decorative veneer or a water-based paint/varnish. This paint therefore contains no solvents or VOCs. These materials make it an eco-friendly and healthy bed for your children.

Regarding our mattresses, they are made with natural fibres such as bamboo or organic cotton. Bamboo indeed offers natural protection against dust mites and bacteria, it is used in the form of viscose stretch in our mattress ticking. On our organic cotton mattresses, a plant-based treatment is used to also provide this anti-dust mite and antibacterial protection for your children. Our mattresses therefore guarantee maximum tolerance for peaceful nights.
