Nateo CONCEPT
Create a headboard in no time!
A headboard at a minimal cost and without taking up space in your child's room is possible. Indeed, you can create a painted headboard. With some equipment and colored paint, you will give a whole new look to the room. If you want to add a touch of color to your child's room while sharing an activity with them, opt for creating a painted headboard!
What is a painted headboard?
A painted headboard is a wall decoration that we create at the head of the bed to give the impression that a frame has been placed. It can take various shapes and colors depending on your preferences and the decorative style you want to give to the room. If you want to personalize your bedroom or your child's room, you can opt for this type of decoration which is very easy to create and cost-effective.
How to do it?
To make a painted headboard, you will need:
- A measuring tape
- A pencil
- Painter's tape
- A large brush
- A small roller
- A paint tray
- Interior wall paint in the desired color
- Something to protect the floor
Wall preparation
To start, you need to draw the shape you want to create for your painted headboard on the wall. Quickly mark the bed's position so you can refer to it and place the headboard in the right spot. For a round headboard, simply use a string, a small nail, and a pencil that you'll use as a protractor. For a square or triangular headboard, you can use a construction ruler to draw straight lines. Draw your headboard. Don't forget to double-check the measurements to ensure your headboard is perfectly symmetrical.
Then, all you need to do is follow your outline with painter's tape. Take time to apply it carefully so that no folds form under which paint could seep through. If you have a steady hand, you can skip this step and define the edges freehand, the result will be even cleaner.
The painting
Protect the floor where you plan to paint and the surrounding area. Shake your paint can well before opening it and pour a small amount into the paint tray. Dip your brush, and start by outlining the edges of your headboard. Apply the paint with precision and uniformly. Then, dip the roller in the paint and remove excess using the edge of the paint tray. Apply it uniformly in thin layers, crossing the strokes. When the entire area has been covered, all that's left is to let it dry (respect the drying time recommended by your paint brand).
Once the drying is complete, you can repeat the process for a second coat. This will ensure a perfectly uniform result and a beautiful color like on the can.
Removing the tape
When everything is dry, you can gently remove the tape. In case of any smudges, you can touch up with a bit of wall-colored paint. All that's left is to move the bed back to see the result!
Which color to choose?
The choice of color for your painted headboard primarily depends on the atmosphere you want to create in the room. For a room with light and neutral colors, the headboard can create a subtle relief by choosing tone-on-tone with the wall color. You can opt for a pastel or neutral color like a nice beige, for example.
If, on the contrary, you want to add a bright touch of color to the room, all colors are allowed! Choose a color that can be found elsewhere in the room to create harmony, such as in the curtains, carpet, or an armchair, for example.
A perfect idea for a child's or teen's bedroom!
A painted headboard is an excellent decorating idea for your child's or teen's bedroom. Whether framing a teen bed with storage or a child's bed with storage, it adds a touch of color and originality to the room.
If you're creating a child's bedroom, why not opt for a convertible child's bed or a 2-year-old child's bed paired with a child's mattress to place in the center of the room? You can highlight your beautiful furniture with the painted headboard. If you're short on space in the room, don't hesitate to choose a child's bed with storage like our PRADO trundle bed for example, perfect for inviting a friend to sleep over (discover all our tips for setting up a child's room here)!
If you're creating a teenager's room, a teen bed with storage will be perfect for organizing all their belongings and keeping the room as tidy as possible. Here too, the painted headboard highlights the teen bed with storage and the sleeping area while adding a colorful touch to the room.
