At what age can my child sleep in a bed without bars?
You have purchased, or are planning to purchase, a convertible baby cot made of wood for your child's room? You should know that after a certain stage, you can remove the bars from the baby cot. But how do you know when the right time has come? At what age can the bars be removed for a child's comfort, in complete safety? Nateo Concept, a French brand of eco-responsible furniture, provides you with guidance.
The possibility of removing the bars from the convertible baby cot
If you didn't know yet, you should know that you have the option to choose convertible baby cots that can transform into a child's bed with just a few adjustments. The concept is simple and practical: once your baby no longer needs them, you can remove the bars on each side of the bed to improve their comfort and safety. Your little one will then be able to sleep in a big bed, without even changing furniture.
Several models of convertible baby cots are now available on the market. They differ in their dimensions, style, or structure. Moreover, there are also modular mattresses and bed bases, which also adapt to the bed's evolutions. Because everything has been designed to make your life as a parent easier! When choosing a barred baby cot, make sure the model complies with all French and European safety and quality standards. Here are two practical convertible bed models from which you can remove the bars:
- The 70x140 cm convertible baby cot made of wood. It's a model of choice that easily adapts to all children's rooms. Indeed, with its optimal dimensions, it will easily fit in a spot in the room without cluttering it. But this doesn't detract from the quality of sleep it will provide your child: it's a spacious bed, for optimal comfort every night. This type of bed can also accommodate storage furniture or even a changing table. It's therefore a clever model, perfect for parents who want to be better organized, save time, or benefit from significant storage space.
- The convertible combination baby cot made of wood. Are you a parent looking for multifunctional furniture? This 3-in-1 baby cot is made for you. It has more spacious dimensions as well as storage with large storage capacities. Even once you have removed the bars to transform it into a child's bed, you can enjoy storage spaces to store linens, toys, or clothes. Take the example of our PALME 3-in-1 convertible baby cot with integrated changing table, ecological sleeping arrangement and made in France.
At what age should you remove the bars from the baby cot?
The evolution of a baby cot doesn't necessarily happen according to your little one's age. Simply because from birth, all children develop differently and at their own pace. So in order to choose the ideal time to remove the bars from a baby cot, you need to listen and pay attention to your child's behavior.
You must therefore take into account their awareness, their development and mobility to make the choice, or not, to remove the bars from your baby's cot. The convertible bed offers all children a sleeping arrangement adapted to their evolution and growth.
Normally, we advise you to keep the bars on the bed as long as your child hasn't reached 2 years old, to avoid any risk of falling at night in case of restless sleep. Once the 24-month mark has passed, you can then determine if they are ready to sleep in a child's bed (or if they need to gain more independence before making the transition).
If your child is not yet 2 years old, but easily climbs on the bars of their bed, then you can of course remove them to prevent injury. Beyond 6 years old, you can replace the baby cot with a convertible child's bed that they can keep until adolescence.
How to remove the bars from a convertible baby cot?
Once your child is developed and resourceful enough, they will be able to get in and out of their bed on their own. This will be the right time to remove the bars from each side of the bed and transform it into a simple child's bed.
The process is very easy and practical: you simply need to disassemble the side panels. It's not necessary to have specific tools, nor to be a handy parent. You simply need to follow the assembly instructions. You're not even required to replace the mattress or the bed base.
With a convertible baby cot made of wood from the Nateo Concept brand, the baby cot base is included in the delivery. It is adjustable to 3 heights. At the very beginning, you can leave it at the highest position to avoid bending down too much (especially if you want to carry them). Then over time you can lower the base so that baby doesn't climb over at night.
Why choose a model with modular bars?
Modular bars encourage baby's development
In general, children are eager to become big and often tend to take their big brothers and sisters as examples. If they feel ready, they won't need to wait for you to buy a new bed to sleep in a bed without bars. You can make the transformation at any time, to pass this important milestone for your baby.
Psychologically, if your child knows that their bed can become a big kid's sleeping arrangement in a few seconds, they will surely want to take the step more quickly. This will therefore encourage their independence and development (while respecting each stage of their growth). However, you shouldn't push them if they're not ready, everything in its own time! There's no rule, so don't panic if your child is a few months behind.
The convertible bed is a durable model
The convertible and adjustable concept simply prevents you from having to change beds every year. Even if your child grows quickly, you can keep the same piece of furniture throughout a large part of their childhood. From the cradle, to the child's bed via the barred cot: there is an evolution for each stage of your child's life, from birth to adolescence.
Having the possibility to remove the bars from the baby cot will allow you to save money. It's a long-term investment that will be good for your wallet. The price of the baby cot will moreover be amortized very quickly. Buy a convertible model and you can keep it for years without sacrificing your baby's comfort and well-being at night. The convertible bed base will also perfectly adapt to your baby's growth. Regarding the mattress, there are different dimensions to suit any bed.
At Nateo Concept, it's for the well-being and comfort of babies and that of parents that we decided to design the ecological and sustainable barred baby cot.
