House-shaped mid-height bed: the new trend to adopt for your child
Nateo CONCEPT
An original bedroom thanks to the raised house bed
In children's rooms, there are certain trends that become essential as they appeal to both young and old. This is particularly the case with the mid-height children's house bed which seems to win all the votes! With its little house look and medium height, this bed is perfect for older children who want to gain some height and enjoy a cosy space for the night.
The mid-height house bed: what is it?
What we call the mid-height children's bed in a house style is a mid-height bed that opts for a house shape. The base is therefore a mid-height children's bed, i.e. a bed whose height is between the classic measurement and that of a children's loft bed. The child can access it very easily via a small ladder.
In addition, a house-like structure is added above the bed. This style is somewhat reminiscent of the Montessori house beds found in many children's rooms.
Between classic versions and house versions, the mid-height children's bed exists in many different styles to match the decor of each room and the expectations of each child (and each parent).
How to choose your model?
Choosing your mid-height house bed depends on several different criteria.
The size
Most often, a standard size is chosen for the design of a mid-height children's bed, which is 90x190cm. A 90x190cm mid-height bed will have the advantage of lasting a long time since it's the standard size for a single bed. As long as the bed is still in good condition and the user's weight complies with the instructions, the 90x190cm mid-height bed can be used until adolescence.
The style
Style is also an important criterion in choosing the ideal model for your child's room. You can opt for a wooden mid-height bed or a white mid-height bed which will have a soft colour and therefore be easy to match in a young child's room. However, there are models with a more pronounced or colourful style to meet all expectations.
The height
The height of a mid-height children's bed is often less than a metre and relatively similar from one model to another. Indeed, the standard height of a classic bed is much closer to the ground, that for a Montessori bed is in direct contact with the ground, and that for a loft bed will be much closer to the ceiling.
Quality and materials
You can also decide to take into account the quality of the construction and the materials chosen. It is always recommended to opt for furniture with at least the 'CE' mention to ensure it complies with current European standards. To go further, you can choose made in France, but also the most ecological materials possible (such as PEFC certified wood) and mindful of the child's well-being (with water-based paint for example).
The price
Finally, the price can also influence the choice of your mid-height house bed. Depending on the models, materials used and quality of construction, the average price for this type of bed ranges from £250 to £500. To lower the bill, you can try to start as early as possible to (sometimes) have the opportunity to take advantage of promotions.
Bahia, Hoya, Luka: our 3 mid-height beds
At Nateo, we offer you three models of mid-height beds:
- Bahia: A mid-height house bed in wood and pine colours that even has a small blackboard at its foot to make it even more fun!
- Luka: A modern-looking mid-height children's bed that can even be transformed into bunk beds. You'll find it in white, but also in slate colour.
- Hoya: A mid-height children's bed in solid pine with a soft and easy-to-match style available in white and pine, grey and pine or khaki and pine.
In what type of room should you install a mid-height house bed?
Most often, the mid-height children's bed is placed in a small child's room. Indeed, the space under the bed allows for storage or simply a small corner dedicated to play or reading. Parents who struggle to maximise space in their child's room will therefore be delighted with what the mid-height house bed allows them to create.
Like a loft bed, it is usually recommended for use from the age of 6. This ensures that the child is comfortable enough to climb the ladder and limits the risk of falling.
How to set up this sleeping arrangement in your child's room?
Setting up the mid-height children's bed is very simple. It usually starts with assembling it if it's delivered as a kit. Then, you'll need to find the right place for it in the room depending on its configuration. Don't forget to invest in a children's mattress, as it's rare for it to be supplied with the furniture.
For the rest, you can involve the child in setting up their room by choosing their preferred children's bedding and installing elements under the bed. These could be storage baskets and toy chests, but also a reading area with cushions and book storage, anything is possible! The house-like structure can also be decorated with pennants or fairy lights.
