Baby Room Feng Shui: Layout

Do you want to create a harmonious layout in your baby's room? How about trying to arrange this room according to Feng Shui principles? This ancient Chinese art advocates a number of rules for arranging interior spaces of the home. The goal? Create a harmonious environment where energies can flow freely to promote well-being and serenity.

What is Feng Shui?

What we call Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese art that allows you to study a place to make it even more harmonious and bring prosperity. Feng Shui relies particularly on the location of rooms, the orientation of living and resting spaces, the allocation of different areas, furniture arrangement, decoration and energy flow. According to this art, destructured energy can affect the lives of inhabitants in terms of relationships, health, work and more. The changes made would thus help restore the proper flow of energy inside one's home.

When deciding to respect Feng Shui principles, one may need to make several changes such as changing furniture placement, creating openings, clearing spaces, adding or removing objects or colours, etc.

Why arrange a baby room according to Feng Shui principles?

If we assume that humans are sensitive to energies, babies should be even more so. Therefore, taking care to arrange a coherent and pleasant living space is all the more appropriate. In a well-thought-out and adapted room, baby will feel more peaceful and secure. The arrangement of the baby's room is therefore of real importance, whether you decide to follow Feng Shui principles or not.

By studying Feng Shui recommendations, you will discover several rules that make particular sense and will help you make the right choices in terms of furniture and decoration.

How to do it?

Before creating a more Feng Shui baby room, here are some principles you can apply.

Soft colours

Whether it's a baby girl's room or a baby boy's room, the presence of soft colours is often preferable. White is of course a safe choice, but you can also opt for pastel colours such as green, blue or pink. Colours like red, orange, yellow or purple should however be avoided. Too stimulating, they don't create a restful environment conducive to relaxation and sleep.

Natural materials

Beyond colours, it's also the choice of materials that will make the baby's room more Feng Shui. Opt preferably for natural materials by choosing a wooden baby room for example. Wood is a noble, robust and sustainable material. It creates a warm environment in the baby's room.

You also have the possibility to turn to eco-responsible wood by favouring FSC or PEFC certified wood (from sustainably managed forests). We also recommend favouring ecological wood panels, as well as furniture with solvent-free paints and varnishes. This is particularly the case with our JULIA duo baby room. Thus, you limit the presence of volatile organic compounds in the baby's room with eco-designed furniture.

Decoration

For decoration, prefer something simple and minimalist. Moreover, opt for images that inspire calm and serenity such as nature and animals for example. Avoid having excess decoration that will tend to overwhelm the space.

The bed position

The bed is naturally the central element of the baby's room. It must therefore be placed appropriately. According to Feng Shui, it is recommended to place the bed so that the baby can see the door of the room. The head of the bed must be against a wall and should not be under a window. If this presents certain constraints, respecting these rules as much as possible would guarantee a secure and soothing environment for baby. Thus, baby's sleep will only be deeper.

Moreover, Feng Shui recommends placing the head to the north of the room.

Light

Light also has an important place in the baby's room. Rather than a large light source located on the ceiling, prefer to multiply small light sources in the room. Use table lamps, night lights, string lights, etc. This way you can create an ambiance according to the time of day and need. For example, you can opt for something more subdued for bedtime stories.

What to avoid

To respect Feng Shui principles in the baby's room, several things should also be avoided such as:

  • Clutter: Therefore, think about providing storage solutions such as storage furniture, a toy chest, storage baskets and boxes, etc.
  • Harsh and aggressive lights
  • Electronic accessories
  • Mirrors
  • Items that don't belong in a child's room

Finally, remember that these are just recommendations. Work with the means at your disposal and the constraints of the room. By taking time to reflect and carefully attending to this arrangement in detail, it is certain that baby will feel perfectly comfortable in their room.
