Why and how to choose a playhouse bed for your child.

To accompany the child from their baby bed to their big kid bed, the choice of a children's playhouse bed is increasingly popular among parents. Fun and reassuring, it appeals to younger children with its house-like appearance. However, the quality of the furniture is also an important criterion to consider.

So what is a playhouse bed? What are the different types available? What criteria should be considered when choosing children's furniture? We explain everything!

What is a children's playhouse bed?

The children's playhouse bed is a bed that has been found in many children's rooms in recent years. It is a "classic" children's bed, to which a structure (most often made of wood) is added to give a playhouse shape to the furniture. Today, there are different kinds of designs, shapes, colours and of course prices to meet the expectations of parents and children.

Why choose a playhouse bed?

The playhouse bed is an undeniable asset in terms of decoration in a room. It can be accessorised with pennants or even string lights. But this is not its only strong point. It creates a true cocoon for the child in which they feel comfortable playing during the day and reassured sleeping at night.

Opting for a boy's or girl's playhouse bed can thus facilitate the transition from a cot to a big kid's bed. The child finds it easier to make this fun and amusing space their own, feeling more comfortable in it.

The different types of children's playhouse beds

As with any other style of children's bed, there is a wide choice of playhouse beds. We can distinguish certain categories.

The solid wood playhouse bed

The solid wood playhouse bed is rather common since, regardless of the shape, wood is most often used for making a playhouse bed for girls or boys. The chosen wood is regularly solid pine which can be painted, varnished or left natural depending on the model. SORIA, LYNN or BELLA are wooden models that we offer.

The Montessori playhouse bed

The Montessori playhouse bed has been widely adopted for several years. It is a model where the bed base and mattress are very close to the ground. The child can then get in and out of bed independently (which is one of the objectives of the Montessori method). Furthermore, a Montessori playhouse bed also reassures parents who fear falls during the night and naps. The solid pine AXEL model is a perfect example of this type of bed.

The convertible playhouse bed

We can also mention what is called a convertible playhouse bed. This model allows you to start with a basic model and add an extension as the child grows to gain space. You can then go from a 90x140 playhouse bed to a 90x190 playhouse bed or a 90x200 playhouse bed. The bed evolves as the child grows. As an example, we can mention the ELLY model in our product selection.

The mid-height playhouse bed

Finally, the last type of children's playhouse bed we can mention is the mid-height playhouse bed. It follows the same principle as the original, namely a playhouse shape, with the difference that the bed base and mattress are raised. The child then climbs into their bed with a small ladder.

Often, this "treehouse" effect appeals greatly to children, but also to parents, who have space under the bed to store chests and baskets, for example. At Nateo, the ALBA model corresponds to this style.

What criteria to consider for children's furniture?

In our opinion, several major criteria should be taken into account when choosing a playhouse bed for children or any other children's furniture.

Product quality

Product quality is an essential point to consider. We will therefore choose a brand known for the robustness and durability of its furniture so as not to have to change the wooden playhouse bed after just a year of use. For this, we recommend brands that specialise in their field and favour quality materials such as solid wood, for example.

Eco-friendly furniture

The ecological dimension is also a criterion that not only helps to limit one's impact on the planet, but also to opt for furniture made with natural materials. At Nateo, we offer eco-friendly and solid wood beds. The wood used is FSC certified and comes from eco-managed forests. It's also a manufacturing process without Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) that is used for the design of our products, with the use of water-based paint without solvents.

The style of the furniture

Another criterion that can be important: the style of the furniture. By choosing the right one, it will find its place in the child's room for many years. We therefore opt for furniture with a contemporary style that matches the decorative style we want to see in our child's room.

What about the mattress?

The mattress is rarely provided with the child's bed. It must therefore be chosen separately, taking into account the dimensions of the bed. At Nateo Concept, our children's mattresses are eco-friendly, favouring natural materials such as cotton or bamboo.
