Our advice for choosing a natural wood bed

The natural wood bed is a safe choice for all parents. Whether it's a cradle, a barred bed, or a children's bed, it is both robust and durable. There are also many possibilities to choose the model that will suit your child or the space available in their room.

Mid-height children's bed, house bed, loft bed... What are the different models that exist? What are the criteria to consider when choosing the right wooden bed? We explain everything!

What is a natural wood bed?

What we call a natural wood bed is most often a solid wood bed. The structure and the bed base are therefore made of solid wood such as pine for example. The bed can be wood-colored, but it can also be painted to give it the desired appearance.

The advantage with wood is that it is a noble product of beautiful quality. It allows for the creation of solid and durable furniture over time. It is particularly interesting to choose this type of furniture for a child's bed, as it is often put to the test over the years.

Moreover, wood also has real aesthetic assets. Warm, it is very easy to match with white or color in a room. You can therefore furnish a child's room entirely with wooden furniture, but also vary the materials by combining a wooden bed with a metal locker-style wardrobe for example.

What are the different styles of wooden beds for children?

The advantage with wood is that it allows for creating all kinds of furniture and there are therefore very few limits. Thus, we find a multitude of different wooden beds for children.

The Single Bed

A single bed refers to the most classic model of children's bed, which is a low bed in 90x190. Easy to assemble and install, this bed is perfect for any child's room and can last for many years.

To gain space and practicality, there are also single beds that have a storage drawer, or a trundle bed to accommodate a second sleeping space. This is a very interesting solution to save space in the room.

The Mid-Height Children's Bed

The mid-height children's bed is a 90x190 bed that sits at a certain height from the ground. It's not a bunk bed, but not a single bed either. The mid-height bed for children creates a dedicated sleeping space that's slightly elevated and therefore pleasant for the child. Access to the mid-height children's bed is via a small ladder.

The mid-height children's bed is also interesting for the storage it can contain. Some have built-in storage like the ANDY model for example. For others, you can consider sliding baskets or toy chests underneath. The mid-height children's bed thus allows you to gain storage without losing space. You can also use the available space under the mid-height children's bed to create a reading corner for example.

The House Bed

Wood is the perfect material for designing a house bed. It is a bed with a house-shaped structure that creates a playful piece of furniture for the child. It can be found in Montessori version, close to the ground for greater child autonomy, but you can also opt for a mid-height house bed for example.

The Convertible Baby Bed

If you want to limit expenses, you can choose to invest in a convertible wooden baby bed. Depending on the models, it can be a cradle that will transform into a wooden baby cot with bars and then into a single bed for children. This solution is also interesting when you decide to buy the complete room for your baby and want the bed to continue matching the set.

The Loft Bed

Beyond the mid-height children's bed, there is the wooden loft bed. This bed is a bit like keeping only the top bunk of a bunk bed. It can be accessed safely by a ladder. Below, it's possible to install a sofa or even a desk for example. It's a very interesting solution to save space in a room.

How to choose the right natural wood bed?

Whether you want to opt for a mid-height children's bed, a house bed, or something else. There are several criteria to consider when choosing a wooden bed:

  • Solid wood is to be preferred as it is stronger and healthier.
  • It is preferable to opt for PEFC certified wood if you want an ecological bed. This label guarantees that the wood used comes from eco-managed forests.
  • MDF panels must be of ecological generation with low formaldehyde content to preserve the child's well-being.
  • Still with the idea of preserving children's health, the paint must be water-based and solvent-free.
  • We of course recommend opting for made in France furniture.
  • Furniture made by a manufacturer specializing in children's furniture will be safer and of better quality.
  • Don't forget to choose a good mattress with your wooden bed, preferably also made of natural materials.

By paying attention to all these criteria, you ensure choosing quality furniture that is safe, durable, and ecological!
