Baby cradle cot: until what age?
Nateo CONCEPT
Choosing the best bed for your baby
The crib is often the very first bed that baby will know in the maternity ward, but also upon returning home. Reassuring and comfortable, it has however a limited lifespan as it will quickly be necessary to move to a cot with bars afterwards. So until what age is it possible to use a crib? What is the most suitable bed afterwards? Why is the combined baby bed a very interesting solution? We explain everything to you!
What is a baby crib bed?
The baby crib bed is the very first bed for the baby, the one in which they will spend their nights and naps from the first days of life. It can take different forms. For example, there are rocking cribs that allow the baby to be swayed to help them fall asleep, basket versions to facilitate transport from one room to another, or co-sleeping versions to have the baby as close as possible during the night. One can also opt for what is called an evolutive crib which can then be transformed into a cot with bars. This is notably what is found with a combined baby bed. Small in size, the crib is perfect for the baby to feel secure.
Most often, one can opt for a wooden baby crib. The wooden crib is a piece of furniture of beautiful quality with a warm style. But there are all kinds of materials from which cribs are made that can be chosen according to preference. It is also important to ensure that the crib mattress is included with the furniture, otherwise it will need to be added during the purchase.
How to use a crib and until what age?
When using the crib, it is necessary to follow the recommendations of the maternity ward medical staff and/or your midwife. Most often, this involves laying the baby on its back, ensuring it is not too warm, not using sheets, blankets, comfort toys or pillows, but simply a sleeping bag, etc. All these tips aim to ensure the baby's safety and guarantee quality sleep.
Regarding the age of use for the crib, it is recommended to opt for this solution until the baby is 6 months old. The child will then need more space, which is why using a cot with bars will be preferred.
Why choose a combined baby bed?
When you want to save money and opt for a more sustainable solution for baby's sleep, you can choose what is called a combined baby bed or an evolutive crib bed.
The combined baby bed is a cot with bars combined with other furniture such as a chest of drawers or a changing table. It thus allows you to benefit from several pieces of furniture in one, which not only saves money but also saves space in the baby's room. The combined baby bed is thus a very interesting solution to invest in when the baby is born.
More than the combined baby bed, one can also opt for an evolutive piece of furniture. In fact, it is not uncommon for a combined baby bed to also be an evolutive baby bed. When we talk about an evolutive bed, it is actually to designate a bed for baby that will evolve according to their growth and needs. For example, one can opt for an evolutive combined baby bed that includes a crib. This way, you can have suitable bedding for baby from birth. This bed will then transform into a cot with bars to follow the child's growth and maybe even into a big kid's bed later. In this way, a single combined baby bed can be used for several years.
How to choose your combined baby bed?
To choose a combined baby bed, there are several criteria to take into account. First, one can favour made in France. This ensures choosing a quality piece of furniture whose manufacture will respect the standards in force. It is also a more eco-responsible choice. If one is concerned about the planet, one can also opt for a natural wood baby bed certified FSC or PEFC. This means that the wood used for making the furniture is sourced from eco-managed forests.
It is also important to ensure the baby's well-being by opting for a combined baby bed with low formaldehyde materials and water-based paint to avoid exposure to volatile organic compounds. By paying attention to this list of criteria, one ensures opting for a quality, ecological and durable piece of furniture.
Our baby bed models combined with crib
At Nateo Concept, we support parents from the birth of their baby and have therefore created several models of baby beds combined with an integrated crib.
There is notably the BROOM model. In its initial form, it has a crib, a changing table and numerous storage spaces for baby's belongings. It can then be transformed into a cot with bars with a small storage unit and later even becomes a child's bed, also equipped with a small storage unit.
There is also the PALME model. It includes a small crib, a changing table, storage spaces and even a small seat to settle in while the baby falls asleep. Then, it becomes a cot with bars with its changing table and storage. Finally, it becomes a child's bed with its small storage unit. The BROOM and PALME combined baby beds are made in France from materials that are safe for baby's health.
