Back to School: 4 Ideas to Properly Prepare Your Children's Bedroom

With the end of summer holidays, it's time for back-to-school preparations. School supplies, new clothes and packing the schoolbag are all steps to take to best prepare for this new year. To ensure everything goes smoothly, your child's bedroom should also undergo some changes. Discover our 4 tips to properly prepare children's bedrooms for the new school year!

1 - Choose the right desk

Regardless of your child's age and the class they will be starting in the new school year, it is essential to provide them with quality furniture adapted to their new needs. From nursery to high school, your child's desk should be in line with their work and schooling.

For younger children, a wooden children's desk will do perfectly. A simple piece of furniture with a comfortable chair is enough for children aged 3 to 10. They only spend a little time behind a desk and don't have much homework yet. For your furniture to keep up with your child's growth, opt for a desk with adjustable height. According to their size and as they grow, you can then adapt the height of the desk for optimal comfort.

From age 10, it is advisable to invest in a more complete desk, larger and more ergonomic. Your child will then have daily homework and will need to study their lessons every day at their desk. To the solid wood children's desk, you can add a storage unit for books and binders, a comfortable office chair, and a desk lamp.

2 - Ensure restorative sleep

For your little girl or boy to be able to concentrate and work properly throughout the year, they must also have restorative sleep. The start of the school year can be a good opportunity to change your child's bed and offer them suitable sleeping arrangements.

As with all equipment in a child's bedroom, you must take into account their specific needs, age and size to choose their bed well. The French-made children's bed is the guarantee of quality, durable and resistant bedding. It will be able to accompany your child for several years and offer all the necessary comfort for peaceful and restful nights.

Among a wide selection of eco-friendly children's beds, you can choose between:

  • A simple wooden children's bed. Eco-friendly and durable, the single bed is ideal for all bedrooms. It offers comfort and durability until adolescence.
  • A wooden bunk bed. The bunk bed allows 2 or even 3 children to sleep in the same room. Both sleeping areas are equally comfortable, and the floor space is limited to that of a single bed. It's a practical and stylish space-saving furniture!
  • A children's loft bed or a mid-height children's bed. These two sleeping arrangements allow you to take advantage of the free space under the mattress to install a desk or a play area. You then have more space in your child's room.

3 - Maintain a relaxation area

While your child's work materials and sleep are essential elements to consider when setting up their new room, their leisure time is equally important. In their room, your child will not only work and sleep. They should be able to have fun, play or read in their own space without having to settle on their bed or at their desk.

For this, the children's loft bed appears to be a good solution. Its slightly elevated sleeping area allows for a whole free space under the bed base. You can then create a comfortable area for them with some cushions, a throw, and even a small bookshelf! In this space, your little girl or boy can read their favourite books, play all sorts of games, invent stories... For a treehouse feel and a truly personal corner in their room, install a veil or curtain. Your child will feel like they're in another world without leaving their room!

If you don't have the space or possibility to create a separate area in the room for your child to relax, you can also install modular furniture. A wooden children's bed with a trundle, for example, is an excellent way to create a relaxation spot without cluttering the room. When your child wants to play or read, they just need to open the trundle to deploy a small comfortable mattress. So they're not really in their bed or at their desk!

4 - Adopt modular furniture for small bedrooms

In small bedrooms or rooms shared by several children, you don't always have the option to create separate spaces. Instead, opt for modular furniture or dual-purpose items! Thanks to this tip, you'll be able to save space while offering your children a cosy, comfortable and welcoming bedroom.

There are several solutions to create modular spaces in your children's bedroom. For this, you can opt for:

  • A mid-height children's bed. Relaxation area, reading or work space, the free space under the bed can be transformed according to your needs. The floor space is freed up and you don't need a high ceiling to install it.
  • A loft bed with desk. This is THE real tip for small bedrooms. The loft bed with desk only takes up the floor space of a single bed and accommodates a real desk just below. With a loft bed, you also have enough space to install storage, a bookshelf or a small reading area!
