A comfortable bed adapted to their age

To rest after busy days and have enough energy to grow, a child needs a comfortable bed adapted to their age! So, when they grow up and are old enough to leave their crib, it's time to set them up in a child's bed. So how do you choose a bed for a 2-year-old? What should you consider to create a real cosy nest for your child? We explain everything!

A quality bed for 2-year-olds

It all starts with the furniture itself and the bed base. When we talk about a 2-year-old child's bed, it's most often a convertible children's bed of 90x140 cm that the child can use until they're 6 years old. This type of bed is also designed to limit the risk of falls in young children. Several options are available to find the ideal bed for a 2-year-old:

  • The single child's bed: This is a classic format of single bed with bed base. It can be found in 90x140 cm or 90x190 cm versions, which allows it to be used until adolescence and even beyond.
  • The convertible wooden bed: The convertible child's bed is a very interesting solution for parents who want to limit expenses. It's a bed that will evolve as the child grows and therefore transform. For example, you can start with a 2-year-old child's bed at 90x140 cm and then extend it to 90x190 cm.
  • The 2-year-old baby bed Montessori: The Montessori bed is distinctive for being close to the ground, which helps limit the risk of falls. It also allows the child to get in and out of bed with greater autonomy.

Beyond the shape of your 2-year-old child's bed, there are also different criteria to consider when choosing a girl's bed or a 2-year-old boy's bed. Indeed, some furniture is of better quality and more eco-responsible than others. For example, you can opt for PEFC or FSC certified furniture, which ensures that the wood used in making your furniture comes from eco-managed forests. Choosing made in France is also a good way to prioritise quality and eco-responsibility.

You can also ensure that the chosen 2-year-old child's bed contains only a low level of formaldehyde and/or is painted with water-based paint to limit the presence of volatile organic compounds that can affect the child's well-being.

A mattress adapted to your child

Choosing the mattress in addition to the 2-year-old child's bed is also essential. Indeed, it will ensure comfort and appropriate support for the child to allow them to rest properly without affecting their growth. We always recommend choosing a new mattress to avoid any deformation or using materials that wouldn't comply with current standards.

To choose a child's mattress well, several criteria should also be considered. First, there are the dimensions that must match those of the bed. Mattresses are available in 90x140 cm, 90x190 cm, 90x200 cm, and even convertible mattresses from 90x140 to 90x190cm designed for convertible children's beds. Several thicknesses are also possible. Here too, you'll need to make your choice based on the selected 2-year-old child's bed and the recommendations associated with the model.

Regarding materials, we recommend favouring natural materials without chemical treatment to, once again, limit the child's exposure to volatile organic compounds. Bamboo or organic cotton are perfectly suitable materials. Being breathable, they help prevent the presence of dust mites.

A cosy duvet and comfortable pillow

Next, you'll need to tackle choosing the duvet and pillow. Of course, choose a duvet suitable for the season so it keeps them warm without causing too much sweating. There are several different fillings available, including ecological polyester fibres, and you can also opt for a model with natural dust mite treatment. A well-chosen duvet will not only ensure good nights but also create fantastic dens!

Regarding pillow choice, we recommend opting for a high-quality model like our ANDY organic cotton pillow, for example. This type of pillow ensures perfect neck alignment for restorative sleep that doesn't affect children's growth. We also recommend choosing a hypoallergenic model

Breathable and soft bed linen

Finally, the last step in creating a real cosy nest for your child: choosing the bed linen. This includes the fitted sheet, pillowcase, and duvet cover of course. Once again, we recommend choosing natural, quality materials like organic cotton. Breathable and long-lasting, organic cotton is the ideal material for children's sheets. Moreover, we'll also choose Oeko-Tex certified items. This label ensures that no harmful substances were used in making the item. Your child's well-being is thus preserved.

At Nateo Concept, we offer a whole range of fitted sheets, pillowcases, and duvet covers in organic cotton and in many colours. You can create sets according to your wishes with a solid-coloured bed or by mixing colours as you please!
