The baby registry is a wonderful way for parents to get help with the many purchases they need to make to prepare for baby's arrival. However, one can sometimes feel a bit uncomfortable about sharing this famous list, feeling like they're forcing their loved ones' hands... So, how can you announce a baby registry without offending those around you? Or even with humour? What are the rules to follow for a successful baby registry?
Using social media
Social media is an excellent way to share your baby registry. It allows you to target your family and friends without addressing a particular recipient. You therefore don't feel like you're forcing anyone's hand.
On Facebook, you can create a post with the link to your baby registry or provide information about the chosen shop and the name under which the list is registered. Accompany this with a message saying that if any of your contacts wish to support you in this new adventure awaiting you, they will find ways to make you happy in this list.
On Instagram, it's more difficult to share a link. However, you can do it in a story. This might be an opportunity to make a video together and address your contacts directly.
On TikTok, you can also take the opportunity to create fun content and thus share the link to your baby registry.
That being said, don't forget that not all your loved ones may be on social media, and older relatives might find it difficult to stay informed about the news.
Sending an email and/or SMS
Emails and SMS remain a very good way to inform the desired people and share information about your baby registry. More confidential, they allow you to address only the desired people. Here too, make an effort with the message that will accompany the list.
Don't hesitate to specify to your loved ones that there is no obligation to participate, that it is simply a way for those who wish to offer something to learn about what you need to welcome the baby.
Information only upon request
If you feel uncomfortable sharing your list spontaneously, you can also prepare it and send it only if someone asks for it. This can be a way for you to feel more at ease with this concept. Be aware, however, that some of your loved ones might take offence at knowing there was a list and that you didn't bother to send it to them.
