Taking care of your outdoor furniture

Have you decided to opt for a wooden garden set? This is an excellent choice to give a natural and warm atmosphere to your outdoor space. However, to ensure your garden set has the longest possible lifespan, it's important to maintain it. Several good habits should be adopted during the fine season, but also during winter to keep your wooden garden set as beautiful as on its first day and allow you to recreate each year the design terrace you love so much.

Maintaining wood according to its type

There are dedicated products for wood maintenance depending on the type of wood. To maintain a beautiful design terrace over the years, it is important to follow the maintenance recommendations for your wooden furniture.

Teak and exotic woods

Teak and exotic woods like acacia, for example, are very good choices for creating a durable design terrace over time. These species are indeed resistant, which allows you to keep a wooden garden furniture for several years.

The first step is always to clean our design terrace. Use a hard brush with soap or Marseille soap and water. You can wet the wood without problem as long as you let it dry well afterwards. The use of a pressure washer is not recommended, as it could damage the structure of the furniture.

Once your design terrace is clean and well dried, you can apply oil to nourish and protect the wood. You will find this oil in DIY stores. Be sure to choose a product suitable for teak and exotic woods. Then, be sure to follow the manufacturer's recommendations. If you live by the sea, it is recommended to opt for a specific treatment.

Pine

For pine, you can start by applying an insecticide and fungicide treatment if this hasn't already been done. For maintenance, simply clean the furniture with soap and water. Once dry, you can sand the damaged areas and then apply a coat of wood stain.

Natural wicker and rattan

If you have design terrace elements made of wicker or rattan, you can also maintain these. You can use a damp cloth to remove dust or even a vacuum cleaner for more efficiency. You can then nourish this furniture using linseed oil, which you will then polish with a soft cloth. All that's left is to let it dry in the sun.

Good habits for summer and winter

Certain good habits should be adopted depending on the season. In summer, it is important to bring in cushions and mattresses at the end of each day to avoid damaging them. You can pat them to remove dust. If you have removable elements, you can wait until the end of the season to machine wash the covers.

During winter, even more precautions need to be taken for your design terrace. It is recommended to bring your wooden furniture indoors in winter if possible. You can also cover them with a breathable cover and store them under a shelter. If you don't have enough space to store your wooden furniture, we recommend covering them with a protective tarp securely fastened to the ground.

The furniture will spend the winter season well protected. When the fine weather returns, you can apply another layer of protective oil before reinstalling your furniture on your terrace or in your garden.

Choosing your garden furniture wisely

More than maintaining your garden furniture, it's also the choice of your furniture that will make all the difference. For outdoor furniture, we recommend opting for eco-friendly furniture made of FSC certified wood and made in France.

There are a multitude of possibilities to create the design terrace of your dreams!

A design terrace for small spaces

If you want to create a bohemian terrace decor or even a design terrace, but you lack space, there are very clever solutions. You can for example opt for a folding terrace table which will allow you to save space when you're not using it. You can also opt for a wooden deckchair of the director's chair type which takes up very little space. Even on a small balcony, it is entirely possible to create a very pleasant outdoor space!

Eating outdoors all summer

If you're a fan of barbecues and like to entertain in summer, the outdoor wooden table is the furniture you need. Paired with benches or chairs, this wooden garden furniture will allow you to gather all your loved ones around good food and enjoy the fine weather together.

Relaxing in the sun

You can also create a true outdoor living room by opting for a design outdoor sofa, for example. Outdoor furniture will allow you to create different spaces with armchairs, loungers, or even coffee tables to place your drinks.

Don't forget to add decorative elements with plants, lighting, parasols, cushions, or even rugs for example. It's up to you to harmonise your exteriors just as you would for an indoor room to create a space you'll enjoy throughout the fine weather (discover all our tips for creating a design and functional terrace here).
