Discover how to choose the perfect loft bed for your child.

When children want to gain height and space in their room, they can choose a children's mid-height bed or a children's loft bed. This specific bed is an opportunity to create a completely personalized space for the child, whether for sleeping or for certain daily activities.

So what is a children's mid-height bed? What's the difference with a children's loft bed? How to choose the right furniture? We explain everything!

What is a children's mid-height bed or a children's loft bed?

When a bed takes some height, we can distinguish two styles: the children's mid-height bed and the children's loft bed. Two models with some differences to suit all uses.

The children's mid-height bed

As its name suggests, the children's mid-height bed is a raised bed for children. The sleeping area is indeed halfway between a classic bed and a loft bed. There are several types of mid-height beds including:

  • The treehouse mid-height bed: It features a treehouse-style structure to give the impression of a little house nestled up high. The elements that make up the treehouse mid-height bed can be personalized with pennants or even string lights for example. Like for example the BAHIA mid-height treehouse bed.
  • The 90x190 mid-height bed: This is the standard version of the children's mid-height bed. The 90x190 format is the size of a classic single bed which allows you to keep the same model for many years despite the child's growth (a mattress of the same dimension is of course necessary).
  • The mid-height bed with storage: A children's mid-height bed can definitely have storage underneath. This is the case with our SONNY children's bed with its two large drawers.
  • The mid-height bed with desk: More than storage, a children's mid-height bed can also accommodate a desk. With our MANLY model for example, there's a fold-out table that creates a real little desk

The children's loft bed

The children's loft bed is also a raised bed. It allows you to make use of all the space underneath the sleeping area, which can be beneficial in a small room. It looks a bit like a bunk bed where the bottom bunk has been removed. The bed base and mattress are therefore placed at height and accessible by a ladder.

Most often, it's a wooden loft bed that is offered for better solidity and stability. The 90x190 loft bed can also be kept for many years. This bed also allows you to save space by placing furniture underneath such as a desk, a bench, or storage for example.

What are the differences between the two beds?

There is a difference between the mid-height loft bed and the classic loft bed, which is mainly the sleeping height. In the first case, it will be much higher than in the second. Therefore, the height of the bed will determine the height available underneath and how you can arrange the space.

This difference should be taken into account depending on how you want to arrange the space in your child's room.

The advantages of a raised bed for children

The main advantage of a children's mid-height bed, like a loft bed, is the space you can use underneath! Indeed, smaller children's rooms may lack storage, and installing a desk can become complicated when the child grows up and you don't want to sacrifice their play area for example.

By choosing a raised bed, whatever type it is, you gain significant space that is the same size as the bed itself. Therefore, you can install a desk, seating, shelves, a chest of drawers, a trunk, or other furniture depending on the desired space.

Moreover, sleeping at height is often a concept that greatly appeals to children. It's an opportunity for them to create a little cocoon nestled up high for peaceful nights and naps. The space can also be popular during the day and used for play. Of course, it's necessary to ensure that your child is old enough to sleep in this type of bed.

How to choose your model?

The choice of bed model depends primarily on your selection criteria.

How much space can you benefit from?

The space available underneath the bed is a first selection criterion. A children's mid-height bed can be an opportunity to enjoy integrated storage, install your own, but also create a small comfortable space like a den. With the children's loft bed, you can even place a desk or a bench underneath the bed.

What furniture style for your child's room?

The style question is also important as the chosen bed needs to easily find its place within the rest of the decor. Whether it's wood colored, white, or colorful, the chosen bed should create harmony with the furniture. Unless you want to completely redecorate the room.

What manufacturing quality?

Finally, the question of manufacturing quality and materials used for the chosen children's mid-height bed may also arise. For better safety, choose a solid piece of furniture made of solid wood preferably like pine for example. Solid wood will be more durable over time.

At Nateo Concept, we prioritize ecological materials to preserve the environment and children's health. Our furniture is mainly manufactured in France with trusted partners.
