Baby's room: the essentials

In the baby's room, finding the right balance between aesthetics and functionality can be a complex task for parents. Fortunately, there are now many pieces of furniture and accessories that greatly facilitate the arrangement of this space. Below you will find the different elements that, in our opinion, will be essential for welcoming baby!

A convertible baby bed

The convertible baby bed has become a must-have for the baby's room. This baby bed is a cot that will transform into a child's bed. You can even opt for a crib with storage, which will then become a cot and then a child's bed like our PALME combination cot. The convertible baby bed thus has the advantage of transforming as the child grows. It is both practical, functional, and economical.

💡 The convertible baby bed will furthermore respect the chosen decorative aesthetic. Indeed, if you opt for a wooden baby bed matching other furniture, it will still match in its child bed version. If you lack storage space in the room, you can opt for a convertible baby bed in its combination cot version. It combines several pieces of furniture in one.

A well-chosen mattress

With your wooden baby bed, you'll need to opt for a good mattress. Choose a mattress dedicated to infant sleep to ensure it's perfectly adapted. You can choose one in latex or organic cotton to focus on natural materials.

If you choose a convertible baby bed, your 70x140 cm mattress can be used in both the cot and the child's bed. Here too, you're opting for a practical and economical solution thanks to convertible furniture for the baby's room.

A dresser that doubles as a changing table

If you don't have enough space to install a changing table in addition to everything else, you can choose a dresser that also serves as a changing table. Like the convertible baby bed, this piece of furniture evolves with the child. It appears as a completely classic dresser on which you can add a changing top sold separately. As a result, you benefit from a changing dresser with storage. When your child is 'potty trained', you'll just need to remove the changing top and continue using the dresser.

A wardrobe for even more storage

As baby grows, they will have more and more clothes and belongings (not to mention gifts like 12-month clothes when baby has just arrived). If you lack space, a wardrobe is a very good complement to the dresser for storage. Therefore, you can opt for what is called a 'complete baby room' or a matching set including a convertible baby bed, a dresser, and a wardrobe.

A toy chest for the play area

The toy chest is undoubtedly an essential element for the play area. It makes it easy to store all toys and remains accessible for young children. We're talking about toy chests here, but it could also be a box, a basket, or even a cart according to your preference.

An accessible bookshelf

If space allows, adding a small piece of furniture to store your child's books is also a very good choice. Choose furniture at their height like a book bin or a Montessori bookshelf. Your child will thus be able to access their books thanks to furniture at their height. They can then choose the bedtime story or simply decide to browse a book independently. This easy access to their books is a very good first step to instill a love of reading!

A cozy rug

Having a rug is very pleasant in a child's room. It can particularly help define the play area. You can notably find rugs designed like car tracks to make this space even more playful. Furthermore, today there are rugs with very short pile to avoid dirt and dust accumulation, and that are also very flexible for machine washing. This allows for much easier maintenance for better hygiene in young children's rooms.

A nursing or relaxation chair

If you've decided to breastfeed, having a chair in the baby's room will be very pleasant. You'll be able to settle comfortably to breastfeed, but also give bottles for example. This chair will also be perfect for cuddle time or reading a story before bedtime. In short, parents will appreciate having a comfortable seat in their child's room, especially if the little one struggles to fall asleep and needs someone near them.

Accent lighting

More on the decoration side, having accent lighting is a big plus in a baby's room. Between bedtime and lights out, there's always a little time dedicated to cuddles, reassuring baby, finding calm. This transition time should be lit with soft lighting to create a more serene and peaceful atmosphere. A small accent lamp is therefore appropriate here.

Curtains

For nap times, complete darkness isn't necessary and this allows baby to know it's still daytime. However, you can create some shade using curtains. Choose models of varying thickness depending on the room's exposure.

You can for example choose linen or cotton sheers if you're looking for lightness. If you want opacity, there are curtains in these same natural materials, but much thicker and blackout.
