Selection of eco-friendly baby mattresses

The mattress must be chosen carefully from your baby's birth. Indeed, it will accompany all your child's nights and particularly support their growth. Therefore, it is essential to choose a quality product that is both healthy and reliable. Discover our selection of eco-friendly mattresses and our advice for choosing the best mattress from your baby's earliest age.

Why choose an eco-friendly baby mattress?

At Nateo Concept, we recommend using an eco-friendly baby mattress. What we call an eco-friendly baby mattress is a mattress made from natural materials and with a lower environmental impact than a so-called classic baby mattress.

What material for an eco-friendly mattress?

There are many natural materials that can be used today to make a mattress. This includes organic cotton, which doesn't require pesticides for cultivation, or bamboo, which is known for its rapid growth and is therefore easily renewable.

Which label for a baby mattress?

To ensure you choose the right mattress, you can opt for a baby mattress with the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 label. This ensures the production of materials or finished products free from certain substances considered toxic.

The presence of the Certipur label is also very interesting for a baby mattress. This testing and analysis program ensures that certain environmental and health characteristics have been respected. Once again, health and ecology go hand in hand.

You can also ensure that your baby mattress is CFC-free. Chlorofluorocarbons are substances that deplete the ozone layer.

Finally, choosing Made in France products will allow you to opt for items produced through short supply chains while complying with current European standards.

Which bed to use with an eco-friendly mattress?

If you want to ensure respect for the environment and your baby's safety, choosing your mattress is crucial, true, but the same goes for choosing the baby bed it will be used with. Our advice? Opt for a combination baby bed or a convertible baby bed. The combination baby bed is a piece of furniture that combines several pieces in one. Moreover, this baby bed is often also convertible, allowing it to transform from a crib to a child's bed. You thus choose sustainable furniture to preserve the environment.

At Nateo Concept, the combination baby bed is also made of PEFC-certified wood, with low-formaldehyde panels and water-based paint and varnish. It is therefore a wooden baby bed that cares for the environment and your child's well-being.

How to take care of your baby's mattress?

Once you have found the ideal baby mattress, don't forget to take care of it. Indeed, by choosing a 70x140 cm model, you can use it in the crib from when your child is 6 months old, then in the child's bed until they are about 6 years old (after that, you'll need to switch to a larger 90x190 cm model). Therefore, several good practices should be adopted during these 6 years:

  • Turn the mattress regularly: It is always recommended to turn a mattress regularly to prevent a hollow from forming in the same spot. If it has a summer side and a winter side, simply follow the rhythm of the seasons. Otherwise, twice a year will be perfectly fine. Don't forget to also rotate it head-to-foot in addition to flipping it over.
  • Use a mattress protector: For better hygiene and to protect the baby mattress from small accidents, it's better to opt for a mattress protector. You can easily wash it from time to time.
  • Air out the room: It is important that the mattress can breathe and evaporate any perspiration it may contain. Therefore, remember to regularly air out your child's room.
  • Vacuum regularly: To limit the presence of dust mites, remember to vacuum regularly in the room, particularly under the bed for example. Also make sure to wash your child's sheets regularly.
