The separable bunk bed: an excellent solution

For two children to share the same room, while keeping the possibility to arrange the space differently, the separable bunk bed is an excellent solution. Practical, but also more sustainable, this furniture allows you to modulate the configuration of the children's room as desired. So what does this type of bunk bed look like? How to choose it? From what age is it possible to use it? What mattress thickness should it be equipped with and how to arrange the room with it? We tell you everything!

What is a separable bunk bed?

The separable bunk bed is an innovative concept of 90x190 cm bunk bed. At first glance, it appears to be a classic children's bunk bed. That is, beds one above the other separated by a ladder to access the top bed. The separable bunk bed can indeed be used this way, especially when the room lacks space. Moreover, it is also possible to separate the two beds. You can then enjoy two single beds to position as desired in the room or in two different rooms. While we're talking about a children's bunk bed, it can also be an adult bunk bed as long as the dimensions are at least 90x190 cm.

At Nateo Concept, we have created a very practical separable bunk bed model. This wooden bunk bed gives you the possibility to separate the two beds if you wish. The ANGEL separable bunk bed is available in grey, white, and slate colors.

How to choose a separable bunk bed well?

To choose a separable bunk bed well, we primarily recommend paying attention to the quality of the chosen model. As it is furniture meant to evolve and be used by two children, it must absolutely be sturdy and designed to last. Therefore, choosing a separable bunk bed made of solid wood seems to be the best choice. Wood is a robust and durable material that allows you to choose furniture with confidence.

We recommend favoring FSC or PEFC certified wood. This label ensures that the wood chosen for your furniture comes from eco-managed forests. It is a more eco-responsible choice. Similarly, opting for furniture with low formaldehyde panels and water-based paint is also preferable for the environment and your child's well-being.

Finally, we also recommend prioritizing made in France. The manufacturing quality will only be better, and you ensure compliance with current standards and regulations.

What age for sleeping in this type of bed?

The age for sleeping in a separable bunk bed primarily depends on how you have organized the room. Regarding the bottom bed (or both beds when separated), your children can sleep in them from the age of 2 years, once they are ready to leave their crib. However, for the top bed, there is still a risk of falling. It is generally recommended for use from 6 years old for a high bed. At this age, your child is able to climb the ladder without risking falling. Therefore, make sure this solution is suitable for your children's age so they can have safe nights. Otherwise, you may need to wait a bit longer.

What mattress thickness for a bunk bed?

When you opt for a separable bunk bed, you must also plan for mattresses to be installed in each bed. It is recommended to refer to the chosen model's instructions to select the right mattress model. For example, our ANGEL model requires a mattress with a maximum thickness of 16 cm. It is very important to follow this recommendation to ensure the guardrail remains effective and thus limit the risk of falling.

What is the maximum weight for this type of bed?

The maximum weight supported by each bed obviously depends on the type of furniture chosen. Regarding our ANGEL model, each bed can support a weight of 100 kg per bed. Therefore, make sure that this corresponds to the intended use for safe nights.

How to arrange a room with a bunk bed?

Once you have chosen your separable bunk bed, all you have to do is arrange the rest of the room. Position your bunk bed strategically so that it is in a pleasant spot, but without taking up too much space.

You can then perhaps create a space for each child with a small desk, a desk lamp, an armchair, etc. This will be a great opportunity to personalize choices according to each child's tastes. Don't forget to think about storage by opting for a wardrobe and/or chest of drawers for clothes. Regarding toys, using chests and baskets often helps limit mess. Have fun finding ingenious solutions to create an environment where your children will feel comfortable without being too cramped.

If you later decide to have your children occupy two separate rooms, you can easily separate the two beds, the two desks, and distribute the storage so that each room is perfectly equipped.
