Our tips for improving your home organization

With the return to school, a whole new rhythm is established at home. From now until July, days will be structured around school, homework, activities, etc. Setting up a well-thought-out organization is the best way for everyone to feel comfortable with this new routine, and of course, to avoid stress.

We can imagine several changes that will help establish better organization at home.

Agenda familial

Create a family schedule

To be able to organize and plan ahead, you need to know everyone's schedules and constraints. Creating a family schedule is perfect for this. It will help identify everyone's weekly commitments, as well as note one-off events that you don't want to forget. With this family schedule, parents and children immediately know what to expect during the week and can adapt accordingly. It's also a very educational tool to teach children how to plan ahead and get organized.

It's often recommended to choose a monthly or weekly calendar that can be displayed where everyone can see it, such as on the fridge for example. There are magnetic models specifically designed for family organization that are very practical to use.

Reorganize the bedroom with a homework corner

With the return to school, reorganizing the bedroom can be a good way to start this period in an orderly and organized manner. You can take advantage of this to sort through the children's belongings, but also and especially to create a real homework corner for them. This space will allow them to take ownership of this task with more independence and have a dedicated quiet space that will be perfect for concentration.

If the room lacks space for a children's desk, there are what we call loft beds. These elevated beds allow you to install whatever you want underneath. This could be a bench, but also a desk. You can also opt for a mid-height bed with an integrated desk which will also be very practical and take up little space.

What to do if two children share the same room?

If two children share the same room, the task might become more complicated, but it's not impossible to create two spaces dedicated to homework. The children's bunk bed is then the most suitable solution. The children's bunk bed is a bed where you'll find two sleeping spaces: one at standard height and another much higher up and accessible by a small ladder. It's often recommended to opt for a wooden bunk bed which will be much more durable over time.

The children's bunk bed or 90x190 bunk bed will therefore help to maximize space in the bedroom. Once the children's bunk bed is installed, it becomes much easier to find space to set up two small desks. Additionally, you can opt for a children's bunk bed that is actually a separable bunk bed. If the children each have their own room later, they can each have a 90x190 children's bed. There is also a children's bunk bed model that includes a children's spare bed, perfect for having a friend sleep over! This is notably the case with our PRADO model.

Thanks to the use of a wooden bunk bed, you can easily consider installing a children's desk, even when two children share the same room!

Establish schedules

Schedules are the key to organization! Between snack time, homework, shower, dinner, and bedtime, it's better to plan ahead to make the return from school as smooth as possible. By choosing what order to do things in and at what time, you can establish a routine for the evening, as well as for the morning before departure. This way, you ensure avoiding delays and children gain independence.

To go further, you can even set up organization charts with schedules. Each child can "check off" when their daily tasks are done and then know what's left to do before they can go play, for example. You can find pre-made routine charts online, but you can also make one yourself, and why not with the children to enjoy a family craft activity.

Promote children's independence

Finally, good organization also relies on children being able to perform certain tasks independently. Depending on their age and what can be implemented, we can therefore entrust them with certain tasks to do on their own.

For example, by storing everything needed for breakfast at their height, we can suggest they have breakfast on their own once the alarm has gone off. Making the bed, taking a shower, doing homework, preparing snacks for younger ones - these are all tasks that can be considered depending on the household's functioning and the children's level of independence. This way, we can focus on other tasks while making our children more responsible at the same time.

Obviously, these changes should be implemented gradually so that it's comfortable for the child. We will therefore guide them step by step and with patience on the path to this new independence so they can take charge of certain tasks at their own pace. More than just saving time and enjoying better organization, entrusting certain missions to children will allow them to gain confidence and maturity!
