A sturdy and eco-friendly bed

When looking for a baby bed to prepare for your child's arrival, wooden beds are often the ones offered by different brands. And for good reason - more than just a warm material, wood is also sturdy, durable, and allows for all kinds of designs. It is therefore recommended to choose a wooden baby bed, but also to pay attention to certain other criteria...

What is a natural wooden baby bed?

What we call a wooden baby bed is a baby bed made primarily from wood. Most often, it's made from solid wood and reconstituted wood panels. However, other materials may be used for details and finishes. The wood can be raw, but it is most often painted or varnished, which allows for the desired color and also protects it to last as long as possible. It's even possible to buy your wooden baby bed with your child's complete bedroom set to have matching wooden furniture

A solid wood baby bed is therefore a barred baby bed that will be made from both solid wood and reconstituted wood panels. This type of item can be found from specialized brands.

Why choose wood?

Choosing wood for a baby bed offers various advantages. First, it is a quality material that is durable over time, which allows you to keep your furniture for many years without deterioration. Moreover, there are different types of wood, and the possibility to paint or stain the material to create furniture that matches your desires. Working with wood also allows for many different furniture styles.

Wood can also be eco-responsible when it is FSC or PEFC certified wood, meaning sourced from eco-managed forests, a wooden baby bed can therefore also meet the expectations of environmentally conscious parents. Finally, it is also an economical material, being more accessible than some other materials used in furniture making.

What are the different types of baby beds?

To choose the wooden baby bed that meets your expectations, you can opt for different types such as:

- The classic baby bed: This is a traditional barred cot. It can be used after the cradle and before the child can move to a big kid's bed.

- The wooden convertible bed: The convertible baby bed is a barred cot that can be transformed into a child's bed. This allows you to keep your furniture even longer.

- The combination wooden baby bed: The combination baby bed combines both a barred cot and other furniture such as storage elements. It can also be convertible like our SALTO model for example.

The chosen wooden baby bed can therefore take several forms depending on your expectations and needs.

From what age can you use a baby bed?

It is recommended to use a baby bed from 6 months of age. Before this age, a cradle baby bed or a co-sleeping bed is rather recommended. If in doubt, turn to your pediatrician or midwife's recommendations.

The wooden baby bed will be used until around 2 years of age. When the child starts trying to climb over the barrier, it's definitely time to switch to a big kid's bed, or a child's bed. Therefore, the barred wooden bed will only be used for a maximum of 2 years, which is why it can be very interesting to opt for a convertible baby bed. This will limit expenses and allow you to easily transform the barred bed into a child's bed.

What criteria should you pay attention to?

When deciding to opt for a wooden baby bed, there are several criteria to consider. First, it is recommended to choose a brand specialized in baby furniture manufacturing. The furniture will generally be better designed and ensures compliance with all current standards to guarantee your child's safety.

As mentioned previously, choosing a PEFC or FSC certified wooden baby bed ensures that the wood used in making the bed comes from eco-managed forests. This is a more eco-responsible choice. It is also recommended to favor made in France to benefit from quality furniture manufactured locally. Finally, attention should also be paid to the use of ecological wood panels with low formaldehyde content as well as water-based paint and varnish without solvents. This helps limit the presence of volatile organic compounds and thus preserves your child's well-being.

What about the mattress?

Finally, the choice of mattress will also be important. It is recommended to choose a baby mattress that has been designed for infant sleep and to ensure appropriate support. Here too, the use of natural materials is preferable, for example by choosing a mattress made of organic cotton or bamboo. It is also important that the chosen model is anti-dust mite and antibacterial.

You should also ensure that the chosen mattress has certain labels such as Certipur and Oeko-Tex for example. It is also interesting to favor French manufacturing for a more eco-responsible choice.
