Getting children involved in Christmas decorations

As the Christmas holidays approach, it's time to get started on decorating your home. Setting up a Christmas tree and your favorite decorations is obviously essential, but you can also take this opportunity to involve the children. Indeed, there are countless possibilities for everyone to express their creativity and decorate the house during the Christmas season. Here are several ideas to involve children and decorate the house while waiting for December 24th!

Clay decorations

Clay is an excellent material for making Christmas decorations very easily, even with the youngest children. We recommend using self-hardening clay, so no baking is needed for a long-lasting result. For example, you can roll out the clay and cut out circles about 10 cm in diameter. On top, stick small pine branches and other treasures collected during a forest walk. All you'll need to do then is make a small hole at the edge of the circle. Once the clay is dry, you can hang each decoration on the Christmas tree.

This is a very simple decorating idea that even the youngest can do, and it will give you a beautiful result, especially if your decoration style leans towards natural materials and neutral colors. You can also use the clay to sculpt stars, trees, and other shapes that will then be painted before being hung up in turn. Clay is therefore an excellent medium for DIY decorations, as you can adapt the activity to children's ages.

A cabin-style bunk bed

Children's bedrooms can also be decorated for the holidays, and the bunk bed is an excellent support for this. Whether it's a 3-person bunk bed, a 90x190 cm bunk bed or a separable bunk bed, it doesn't matter as long as it has a solid structure to hang decorations. Moreover, for a children's bunk bed, we most often recommend a wooden bunk bed which is more durable (made in France is even better).

Furthermore, the 3-person bunk bed is perfect if you plan to host friends or family during the holidays. Our MANLY 3-person bunk bed for example has enough space to accommodate cousins at home for Christmas! Whether it's a 3-person bunk bed or another type, you can use the structure to create beautiful decorations.

For example, opt for ribbons or string lights that will form a sort of curtain and thus give the impression that the bottom bunk is a real little cabin. You can also hang your clay decorations on the guardrails using string so that everyone can enjoy their creations. In short, don't hesitate to be inspired by your furniture and installations to be creative in the children's bedroom.

A cardboard Santa Claus

Making a cardboard Santa Claus is a great classic as it can be done with very basic materials. So, don't throw away your kitchen roll and toilet paper tubes, they are excellent materials for creating characters. Paint, cotton wool, a bit of glue is all you'll need to offer a fun and entertaining activity for children. Everyone can then display their cardboard Santa Claus by placing it on the fireplace, for example.

Christmas trees with ice cream sticks

Popsicle sticks are also an excellent craft supply to have at home for all sorts of manual activities. Here, you'll need to glue three together to form a triangle shape like a Christmas tree. Then add a small piece of cardboard to form the trunk, and glue a piece of string at the top to hang the decoration. Children can then have fun painting their little tree and also decorating it with glitter, pompoms, and all other sorts of decorations as they wish.

A garland or window decorations with snowflakes

Creating paper snowflakes is very simple and as soon as your child is old enough to handle scissors, they can get started. It involves folding a sheet of paper over itself several times and then making small cuts through the different layers of paper. Once the sheet is unfolded, you discover a beautiful snowflake. You can then stick the snowflakes on windows or create a garland to hang on furniture, for example. You can leave the snowflakes white or choose to decorate them with glitter, paint, etc.

A pinecone Christmas tree

Pinecones are excellent materials for creating autumn and Christmas decorations with children. A pleasant walk in the forest will be the perfect opportunity to collect them and will already provide a wonderful moment with the children. Set them aside for a rainy day activity to turn them into beautiful Christmas decorations. Simply paint the pinecones green and they'll immediately look like mini Christmas trees. Children can then glue beads, glitter, and other decorations to the tips of the small branches to decorate this mini tree. You can showcase these colorful pinecones in a pretty transparent vase, hang them to form a garland, or simply place them around the house.
