Our maintenance tips for a always clean wooden baby bed

In the baby's room, wood is the most commonly found material, especially when it comes to the cot. To ensure a healthy environment for your child, regular cleaning of the room is necessary, particularly the wooden baby bed. So what are the characteristics of a wooden baby bed? What are the different types of beds available? Why clean a natural wooden baby bed and how to do it?

What is a wooden baby bed?

A wooden baby bed is a baby bed made from wood. The cot can thus be made from solid wood, but also from wood panels for example. This material is often preferred by parents because it allows for the creation of beautiful, safe, durable, and robust furniture. It's therefore easy to find a solid wood baby bed or one made from wood panels on the market. It can be raw, varnished, or painted, which offers a very wide range of possibilities to meet all decorative desires.

Moreover, since wood is widely used for furniture making in general, you'll have no trouble finding storage furniture like a wardrobe or a chest of drawers, as well as a changing table to match your baby bed.

What are the different types of wooden baby beds?

Wood allows for the creation of all sorts of bed models, offering parents a wide range of possibilities according to their desires, needs, and budget. These include:

  • The classic baby bed: The classic baby bed is a non-convertible cot with bars or plexiglass. It can therefore be used right after the cradle and until the baby is old enough to sleep in a big bed! Generally up to 2 years old.
  • The combination baby bed: The combination baby bed is an all-in-one bed. It combines a baby cot with other elements such as storage or a changing table, for example. It's perfect when you want to save space in the baby's room, like with our BORA model for instance.
  • The convertible baby bed: The convertible baby bed, as its name suggests, will evolve as the child grows. Starting as a cot, it will transform into a child's bed so that it can be used for several years.

  • The twin baby bed: The twin baby bed is a model designed to accommodate two babies. Practical, it is often combined and convertible and offers real space saving in the room. It thus allows two children to share the same room.
  • The 60x120 baby bed: The 60x120 cm baby bed is a standard size for a baby bed. It's ideal for taking up as little space as possible in the room.
  • The 70x140 baby bed: The 70x140 cm baby bed allows for a slightly larger size. Thus, if it's a convertible model, it allows for a 70x140 cm child's bed that can be used until about 6 years of age.

Which wooden baby bed to choose?

Whether you opt for a classic wooden baby bed, a combination bed, a convertible one, or even one for twins, there are certain criteria to consider to choose a high-quality piece of furniture. For example, it's recommended to choose furniture certified PEFC or FSC. This label proves that the wood used to make the bed comes from eco-managed forests, which means its production will have less impact on the environment than a classic piece of furniture. You can also opt for a bed made with ecological wood panels with low formaldehyde content and/or with water-based paint or varnish. This way, you limit the baby's exposure to volatile organic compounds, which is preferable for their well-being. Favouring made in France is also a good way to choose an eco-responsible and quality piece of furniture.

Why clean a wooden baby bed?

The baby's room should be a clean and healthy space. Regular cleaning is therefore necessary, particularly to limit the presence of dust and thus the risk of allergies, for example. This is especially true if there are pets in the house. It's also important to regularly air out the room to ensure the baby has a healthy environment. We should therefore opt for regular cleaning of the room, especially the wooden baby bed. However, it's important to know how to go about it to carry out effective cleaning without damaging the furniture. Finally, cleaning a wooden baby bed or a plexiglass baby bed, for example, requires the use of different methods and products.

How to do it?

To clean a wooden baby bed, we recommend using a dry microfiber cloth. This will allow you to easily remove dust by reaching all the corners of your designer baby bed very easily. In case of stains, you can use a slightly dampened cloth, but be careful not to use a wet cloth or a strong household product, otherwise the paint may come off if you have opted for non-toxic water-based paint.

Take the opportunity to remove the mattress to pat it outside to remove dust as well and change the sheets.
